What do we do?







Scottish Native Woods is dedicated to the conservation, restoration and enlargement of native woodlands in Scotland.








Our Priorities:

Children planting trees

restoring and extending Scotland's native woodlands

encouraging vibrant and sustainable links between woods and people



Our Key Activities



Securing the sustainable management of native woodlands:

our management is aimed at contributing to national and international Habitat Action Plans.

our area managers provide expert management advice to woodland occupiers and community groups.

we conduct woodland surveys, prepare management plans, help secure grants, supervise contracts and monitor progress

Increasing awareness and understanding of native woodlands:

we organise informational events for woodland owners, tenants and managers

we disseminate information through publications and the media.

we work with communities and schools

Strengthening the contribution made by native woodlands to the economy:

we promote a variety of uses for native timbers.

we manage native Riparian Woodlands to maintain and improve our freshwater habitats for industry, smaller enterprises and leisure pursuits such as angling.

we encourage responsible public access for all, including Scotland’s many visitors.

Advising and influencing government policy:

we actively campaign for environmental and conservation issues to remain at the forefront of policy

we participate in consultations and forum discussions
