Five thousand years ago Scotland’s “Caledonian forest”, or natural forest, reached its maximum extent and probably covered over 80% of Scotland
As some of you may know we are a member of Bighearted Scotland, a consortium of charities who work together to raise funds for our very worthy causes. As part of this we hold an awards event in September to celebrate those people who give of their own time to help others. The awards take the form of a Gala Evening hosted by Lorraine Kelly, with awards being made by Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon. Nominations are now closed.
You can also buy tickets to attend this gala event at the brand new Grand Central Hotel in Glagow on September 10th. We'd love to see you there. Call 0131 557 5767 to book.

Tickets are only £1.50 and you can enter by text or by purchasing tickets. You can enter as many times as you like. The draw will take place at the Awards Dinner in Glasgow on 10 September.
The car is valued at £15,000 and has been kindly donated by Peter Vardy.
Below are the next planned activities but please note these details could change at short notice so keep an eye on this page.
Sunday 5th September - Flisk Farm East - Invasive Control
In April we visited this farm with its view of the Tay when we were hedge-planting. This time we will be pulling out Himalayan Balsam. This is a nice plant to look at but grows rampant throughout woods and by water, displacing the native species.
Sunday 3rd October - Falkland Estate - Woodland Management
We will be in the beautiful woods of Falkland Estate, NE Fife, to help restore the native woodlands. Various jobs require doing including finishing a bridge construction. Details to be confirmed nearer the time.
Come along and learn a new skill and help the environment. Contact chris.childe@scottishnativewoods.org.uk to register or for more information or call Chris on 01337 832169

The People's Postcode Trust have once again given financial support to a community project Scottish Native Woods are involved with.
Camserney Community Garden, just outside Aberfeldy, have been given a donation to help install an electrical supply, a gazebo, more fruit trees and to create more allotment plots for the community to grow their own veggies.
The site is a great source of outdoor learning for pupils from Breadalbane Academy who are helping make this garden a fantastic community asset.
