Jays play a major role in the maintenance and spread of oak woodland. Part of their scientific name, Garrulus glandarius, comes from the latin glandis, meaning 'acorn'.
Healthy, thriving native woodlands valued for their unique contribution to Scotland's people, culture, economy and natural environment

It is with considerable regret that the Trustees of Scottish Native Woods have to announce that the Trust is to be placed in liquidation.
Government and charitable funding has become increasingly difficult to source over recent years. Scottish Native Woods responded to this challenge by establishing SNW Trading Ltd to provide different sources of income. SNW Trading has been successful, but the increase in its profits has not made up for the fall in government and trust funding.
Although the Trust will be no more we hope that some of our activities will continue: there is certainly a need for them! It seems that SNW Trading can have an independent future, involving some staff, and we are also talking to other charities who could provide some of our projects with new homes.
So thanks for everyone's support over the years, and watch out for news on the next phase...

The People's Postcode Trust have once again given financial support to one of our projects.
A beautiful part of Midlothian, Crichton Glen, is fast becoming overrun with bracken but with help from the People's Postcode Trust and our volunteers we will soon have this under control. Bracken is a tough plant to eradicate but by treating it through crushing with a big metal roller we can hope to reduce its hold on this lovely spot.
This will give the native trees a real chance to regenerate.
We are still looking for volunteers to help. If you are interested please contact us on 01887 820392 or email enquiries@scottishnativewoods.org.uk
